Shiawase no Pan

'a feel good movie about togetherness and finding the true happiness-
heartwarming and calming.'

i watched this movie out of the blue as i stumbled upon the link while blog-walking in some random blogs.
and i fell in love with it!

catch it here

(may contain generic spoiler)

The story mainly revolve around the Cafe Mani, a bakery restaurant located in the countryside, Lake Toya, Hokkaido. Such a beautiful place and the results to the movie was whimsical cinematography.

Rie and Nao is a couple who runs the place.  Nao bakes the delicious bread while Rie cooks the complimentary food and make great coffee every morning for their frequent visitors. It' a nice place i wish i could visit a place like that someday. Or maybe owns it.
Occasionally, there's narration from a mystery narrator with child-like voice.
You have to stay until the end to find out who is the narrator.

The story is divided into three episodic format as to match the seasonal change. three couples with different issues come and go from the bakery. And each one of them leave the bakery with new found happiness.
The first couple is a young girl who hailed from Tokyo trying to nurse hear heartbreak over a breakup. she met with a localite, a guy who works at the railway station.

The second couple is a father and daughter. The daughter misses her mother and her pumpkin soup and his father seemingly not to care about her. It's touching to see that the father is hurting inside as much as his daughter. But, that's the thing with being adults, we hold everything inside us and try to pretend that we're not affected by anything.
Noble-idiot syndrome.

The third and the last couple came in during the harsh winter.
This is my favourite arc of the story. They've been together for 50 years. It's amazing to watch how the husband take great care of his wife. Such love is something to be envied about.

The main couple of this story may seem to have it all and is in a happy state at first glance. But, the more you follow their journey together, you'll realize something is missing especially from Rie's point of view. She smiles a lot but sometimes the smile does not reach her eyes. This is something that could only be seen by her dear husband.
I love their relationship.
I love the quiet romance depicted by them. No need of in-your-face intimate scenes, a simple gesture is enough to show the love that they shared. :")

it's a simple, emotional drama with a lot of hearts.

go watch it!

p/s: and also, can I have a husband who knows how to bake delicious bread and love me unconditionally?.  :))
